15 Best Wrestling Games Ever
Spike Chunsoft

...World.

Fire Pro Wrestling World aimed to bring the best in class gameplay and unique retro flair of the series into the present day. Remarkably, those who loved the series overall didn't lead the charge to declare this the best wrestling game ever released. In fact, some seemed disappointed by the final product. That's baffling, because it's the most immediately accessible version of Fire Pro on the market.

An in-house quasi-2K Community Creations hub kept things fresh by acting as a workaround for those who wanted more WWE flavour. It's possible to hop onto the servers and download pretty much any wrestler you can think of from any era they worked in. That's also true for various logos, arena set-ups and more. The dedication this fanbase has is stunning to witness.

Yes, gameplay is World's best feature by a mile, but it isn't all the game has to offer. The isometric camera view and timing-based grappling system could leave some reaching for the headache pills, admittedly. Spend some time perfecting it and you've got one of the most compelling wrestling games going. Once you get Fire Pro, you get Fire Pro. There's no going back - it's like learning to ride a bike.

There's a bit of charm to the 'handheld warrior' Story Mode too. It's presented in more of a Nintendo DS than PS5 style, but that's OK. There's still fun to be had, not least if you're into Japanese wrestling.

Come for the match to match gameplay, stay for the customisation and the options.
