9. Sunset Overdrive
Sunset Overdrive was Microsoft's notable holiday exclusive of 2014 for two reasons. In one sense, the title gained a great amount of traction because of its energetic and vibrant aesthetic, comic book-esque open world gameplay and its wry, fourth-wall breaking humour that dominated most of the pre release material for the title. In another way though, the exclusive was interesting because it was being creating by the talented folks at Insomniac Games, a developer that usually associated themselves with Sony. Unfortunately the headlines the unexpected business deal kind of overshadowed the game itself, a shame considering just how fun the title is to play. Centred on a preoccupation with keeping constantly on the move - from grinding across wires to being rocketed from building to building - the game's gun-play is imbued with such a satisfying sense of movement and agility that results in Sunset Overdrive playing like nothing else on next gen console.
