15 Crucial Questions For 2018's Biggest Video Games

1. Will Political Controversy Ruin It? - The Last Night

The Question: Though cyberpunk platformer The Last Night turned a lot of heads at this past E3, it was also the source of major controversy due to some 2014 tweets made by creator Tim Soret, which were perceived to be anti-feminist and pro-Gamergate.

Though Soret has apologised for the tweets, the situation is unavoidably going to arise again when the game finally releases next year. Will the game manage to survive these PR snafus and release to critical and commercial success, or is it doomed to be a dud that doesn't sell on principled grounds?

The Likely Answer: It's a difficult one, because so many controversies are quickly swept under the carpet once the initial dramatic explosion is done with, and with the game releasing so far from the E3 hubbub, Soret and his team will surely be over the worst of it.

He has potentially another year-plus to keep his nose clean and do some good for his image, so it may feel a little passe to keep banging the drum about his previous comments almost five years after-the-fact.

There will definitely be a conversation as it releases, but at the end of the day, those gorgeous cyberpunk visuals are probably going to win out if the reviews are strong enough.
