15 Greatest Resident Evil Moments Ever
12. Live Action Intro - Resident Evil (1996)
It's easy to look back and scoff at how terribly corny this is by today's standards. But back in the heady days of new, 32bit consoles, this was incredible.
Alright, it wasn't, but at least it isn't forgettable.
Many of us didn't know what we were in for when we booted up this game when we were young-- old enough to play it, back in 1996. So when we were treated to this live action opening, in all its black and white (damn PAL or NTSC) glory, our jaws dropped.
Those sinister low angles, the vague hints at what's attacking these guys, Jill's badly-acted cry of, "Joseph!", or Chris yelling halfheartedly at a fleeing Brad, it was all there.
Sure, it wasn't going to win any awards for best acting, but we didn't care. It was peak 90's cheese, right down to character intros.
Do yourself a favour now, though, and watch it again. I bet you'll be grinning to yourself before it's even halfway through.
It's still terrible, but it's the best kind of terrible, which is what the series wears like a badge of honour.
