15 Iconic Final Shots Of Beloved Video Game Characters
11. Lara Croft - Tomb Raider
2013's Tomb Raider reboot was a massive surprise that no one was expecting. Crystal Dynamics had taken a series that had become a stale parody of itself and reinvented it with Lara's second origin story (the first being slightly different and involving a plane crash which kills her parents). The game starts with Lara aboard an exploration vessel, searching for the island of Yamatai in a long-feared area called The Dragon's Triangle on the south Asian seas. The ship encounters problems and begins to sink and break apart, forcing the crew to abandon ship. Throughout the trials of the game, Lara learns to cope with killing, being shot at, animals, cultists and the harsh environments and becomes stronger as a result. Come the end of the game, with her friend Sam rescued and the cultists that inhabit the island successfully dispatched, Lara and her few remaining companions escape and are picked up by a cargo ship. The captain of the ship tells Lara that they'll be home soon and as she stares out to the sunset, she says "I'm not going home". It's a serene ending for a frantic, violent and frankly brutal game that reminds you with every death, how fragile Lara actually is. The text that fades onto the screen "A survivor is born" both comments on the journey the character has been on and sets the expectations that this variation of Lara Croft will return. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cm50fB0UHs8
