10. Raziel - Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver 2

The two Soul Reaver games were two of the best loved cult hits on the PS1 and PS2. They charted former vampire Raziel's quest for vengeance after being destroyed by the vampire leader, Kain, for evolving beyond him and surpassing him in stature and ability (Raziel grows wings and Kain tears them off). Destroyed and killed, Raziel is resurrected as a reaver of souls and sets about slaying his former brethren and chasing Kain across Nosgoth and it's surrounding areas. In the second game, Raziel and Kain have been sucked back in time to before Raziel was a vampire, when he was, ironically enough, a vampire hunter. In a twist of fate, Raziel is revealed as one of the few beings in the world who is not bound by destiny and is free to dictate his own path without his ending being decided for him. Using a blade called The Reaver, which is destined to house a ravenous soul, Raziel attempts to stop Kain from altering history and undoes any deeds he has done, even to the point where Raziel has to kill his human self so there is a corpse available for Kain to animate into a vampire in the future. Time travel can be tricky. The ending has Raziel's sword, The Reaver, turning on him and attempting to consume his soul, the revelation being that Raziel was always meant to be the ravenous soul at the heart of the sword, explaining why at the start of the first game, the sword shattered when Kain attempted to kill Raziel with it.
