Black Ops' very first mission sees the player storming Fidel Castro's compound in the hope of killing Cuba's infamous dictator. At a pivotal moment, the player makes it to his bedroom, and after he takes his mistress hostage, manages to pop a bullet in his head.

Castro falls to the floor, dead (and his trigger-happy mistress soon enough gets lit up as well), but it later transpires that Castro is very much alive and the poor schmuck who ate lead was a body double.

That distinction didn't stop the Cuban government from publicly denouncing the game, declaring, "What the United States government did not achieve in more than 50 years, it now tries to do virtually."

Whatever your perspective on the politics of it, it's a terrifically entertaining scene and proves how well the CoD series can engage with real-world history when it wants to...and enrage an entire country at the same time.
