15 Insane Call Of Duty Moments That Blew Your Mind
10. The Groundbreaking Multiplayer (Modern Warfare)
2007 saw the Call of Duty franchise reinvent gaming forever more, specifically the prevalence of multiplayer, with a ludicrously addictive online suite that brought deep progression and reward systems to the FPS.
Prior to Modern Warfare, these mechanics had mostly been left to the RPG genre, but Infinity Ward realised that shooter fans love grinding, upgrades and flashy achievement notifications as much as anyone else. Frankly, in retrospect it's astounding someone didn't come up with it sooner.
The FPS genre was forever changed, with almost every online shooter of note subsequently adopting ranking up, perks, attachments and whatnot, and this also had a knock-on effect to a huge number of other genres: even racing games and freaking Guitar Hero have XP now.
The multiplayer component's Earth-shattering influence cannot be overstated, and on top of all that, it was also an insane amount of fun.
