15 Misleading Video Game Trailers That Totally Lied To You

7. Final Fantasy XIII

While graphically the retail release of Final Fantasy XIII managed to capture the visual style of the trailers pretty damn well, it's still absolutely unacceptable how every piece of early footage completely misrepresented the game's combat. Unlike traditional Final Fantasy turn-based fighting, the trailer for XIII implied that the franchise had moved to a more real-time, Western style. Instead of methodically planning out moves, the trailer had Lightning jumping, slashing and gliding from enemy to enemy in an action frenzy. Of course, when FF XIII released it was nothing like this trailer suggested, but at least the scene from the trailer that teased the change actually turned up in the game, right? Yeah, as a cutscene. While the pre-release footage displayed a HUD, hit-points and everything you would expect from a combat encounter in a Final Fantasy game, the end product revealed that this was simply a trick to get gamers hyped up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMqJEANuot8
