15 Misleading Video Game Trailers That Totally Lied To You
9. Halo 3
Halo 3's 'Believe' trailer provided an absolutely breathtaking look into the emotional finale of the Master Chief trilogy. Beautifully showing small skirmishes that were happening inside a much larger battle, it presented a diorama of what looked like a last ditch effort in the Human-Covenant war. At the centre of this epic clash was Master Chief himself, held up in defeat either dead or unconscious. It was a poignant, emotional and devastating image... that was more heart-wrenching than anything found in the actual game. While of course you can't take cinematic trailers at face value, you also have the right to assume that they represent at least something about the finished product. The problem wasn't that intense battles were missing from the final game, but that you were never once given the chance to experience a fight on this scale at any point. Sure Halo 3 released to critical acclaim, but there was a definite feeling from fans and newcomers that the marketing for the game was actually better than the title itself. All the trailers leading up to release had a sense of grandiosity - a feeling of desperation and scale that was simply never felt in any of the small combat skirmishes that made up the bulk of the main campaign. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rridXskgWg
