For a long time, Sea of Thieves was pretty much Microsoft's equivalent to Sony's Dreams. Shown off at conference after conference, Rare's game always looked ambitious, but for the longest time players had no idea what it actually was.

Fortunately, unlike Dreams, over the past year Sea of Thieves has slowly proven itself to be one of the most exciting games coming to the Xbox One. The developer's blend of naval combat with on-land exploration and treasure hunting makes for a unique gameplay dynamic, while taking to the high seas with a group of friends, all the while living out your wildest pirate adventures, is too inviting of a prospect to pass up.

Rare have struggled over the past couple of generations, but considering how much stronger their latest game has gotten from show to show, Sea of Thieves could turn out to be their best project in years.
