15 Most Disappointing Video Games Of The Decade (So Far)
10. SimCity
As technology advanced, gaming became more and more dependent on the internet. What happens when a game's servers completely collapse then? Absolute disaster, as shown with EA's most recent entry in the SimCity series. Despite receiving critical acclaim for it's new engine and re-imagined gameplay, SimCity flopped dramatically at launch as EA's servers crumbled, thanks to widespread technical problems and the rush of gamers eager to jump online and start building. It raised all sorts of questions about games which are persistently online - why on Earth didn't SimCity come with an offline mode for moments like this? Many attributed it to EA's DRM policy; by making SimCity need an internet connection, they could verify copies of the game to prevent piracy. Still, when the normal paying public are punished, is it such a great policy? SimCity may have been a great game but sadly, it was marred by technical issues, blamed on the 'stampede of players' which logged on at launch. Hopefully, the outcry that followed the poorly managed always online feature will ensure many developers rethink the strategy before implementing a similar one in future.
I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
