3. Shadow Of War's Loot Box Additions Cause Unease
Shadow of Mordor was such a fun and enthralling game (outside of the miserable final boss fight) and it's such a shame to see it fall into the way of microtransactions. That's not to say that Shadow of War wasn't a good game, because it was, but the mess that loot boxes caused gave the game an awful reputation most find it hard to look past.
At any point nowadays, if we hear the words "microtransactions" or "loot box" it is automatically met with a negative reception. Shadow of War was almost instantly shunned because of this addition. Multiple reports coming out that the end game was an immense grind and almost required the purchase of loot boxes did nothing to ease this pain.
Is it possible to get through Shadow of War without purchasing a single loot box with real world money? Yes, it most certainly is, it's just going to take more time out of the player. As with most loot boxes, they can be obtained through regular gameplay, just gradually, and nowhere near as much.
If anything, the worst part of the loot boxes is the fact that all the orcs you sank your money into can die in-game and be gone forever. So those epic and legendary orcs you just shelled out for who met their demise are gone for good, and so is your money.
