When it comes to playing basketball video games, the 2k series is where majority of gamers gravitate. NBA Live made its return from a brief hiatus this year, but as expected it was outclassed and outgunned by the 2k franchise.

However, 2k decided to get very greedy with this entry in the series.

2k uses Virtual Currency as it's currency system in game. You use it across all game modes either by buying yourself new card packs in MyTeam or upgrading your player in MyCareer. You earn VC naturally through playing the game, but can also use real world money to buy more. Here's where the tomfoolery comes in.

The acclaimed mode in this game is MyCareer, where you take your player and make him better and better until he's the greatest of all time. This year, that progression was painfully slow. Using the 6,000 VC you were gifted at launch would only improve you from a 60 to a 62 rating overall. On average you earn anywhere from 500 to 1,000 VC per game played, earning the most the longer the game is. You are looking at hours upon hours of game time played to even just barely upgrade your player.

It must also be said that if you want to edit your players appearance in any way: new haircuts, new shoes, new tattoos, new moves, new clothes - it'll all cost more VC than you're trying to pump into your player. NBA 2k18 shoehorned microtransactions into the game in such a jarring way, it's left a sour taste in the fanbase's mouths.
