Where to even start?

First, the XP debacle. During an event that was designed to have you earn more XP as you played with clanmates, players realized their XP level meters were being nerfed, but the display in-game was still showing what they should have been earning.

What makes this so important is that you gain a new Bright Engram at every level past 20, containing items from the Eververse, the microtransaction store in Destiny. Fans were outraged, claiming their XP was being throttled to tempt them into spending real money on the Eververse engrams.

Bungie would only make a response after fan outrage became too loud to ignore.

Then comes the recently released and first expansion to the game, Curse of Osiris. A staggering amount of the new gear that was added in the expansion was actually added into the Eververse store, and not into in-game activities.

This was seen as another cash grab, but it wasn't the worst thing to annoy everyone.

With the expansion came an increase in light level, which meant certain activities would be moving from 300 recommended light level to 330. However, if you didn't own the expansion, you couldn't surpass a 305 light level, meaning you were locked out of all 330 activities. This meant players being unable to unlock two achievements featured in the base game unless they bought the DLC.

Once again fans were outraged that this happened out of nowhere, with zero communication from Bungie that activities would be unavailable for vanilla players.

Bungie have since righted this wrong, as they dropped the light levels back down to 300 and allowed fans access to the game they originally purchased. But the damage had been done, and trust for Bungie from the fanbase has started to wither away rapidly.
