15 Most Hilariously Written Video Games Of All Time

4. Maniac Mansion 2: Day Of The Tentacle

Choice Quote: "You know what they say: To save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs" - Bernard. More commonly referred to just as 'Day of the Tentacle, to many this was the game they'd wished received a re-release rather than Grim Fandango. Turns out LucasArts were actually "80% finished" on doing so before they closed last year too, but even so thanks to the recent spate of retro-looking games releasing with primitive pixellated artwork, it makes titles that pioneered the look in the first place eminently replayable. The graphics themselves aren't as blocky and stark as something like Fez or Proteus, instead building on the legendary Monkey Island series (more on that later) to animate characters like the crazy Dr. Fred who sets in motion the events of the game, or the heroic Bernard Benoulli and his student-style partners Laverne and Hoagie. Co-designed and led by Tim Schafer and Dave Grossman, every line is eminently quotable and each character could easily star in their own game - helping to continue and firmly establish the quirky style that would go on to become Schafer's identifying trademark in all his future work.
