If you imagine Heavy Rain crossed with an 80s slasher flick like Friday the 13th, then youve got Until Dawn. It might sound cheesy and cliché and it kind of is but once you get past that the game itself is actually a pretty intense experience. Although the first couple of chapters are relatively tame, fright-wise, the game takes a dark turn pretty early on, and from then on the scares just keep on coming. Whether its being stalked by supernatural cannibals, nervously wandering through the deep, dark mineshaft, or trying to escape from a mask-wearing psycho, theres plenty to keep you guessing and more often than not a fatal punishment if you get it wrong. The Dont move! sections are especially good at making you panic, because its like youre personally involved in the situation rather than the player character. Exploration is the key to negotiating safety for everyone involved but its also dangerous, because exploring the wrong place at the wrong time will also trigger a nasty end for those involved. Tense, nerve-wracking and with more than a few jumpscares thrown in, Until Dawn is definitely one to play during the day.
