If youve ever seen the movie Battle Royale, then thats a good place to start for trying to explain Danganronpa. Their premises are very similar a bunch of schoolkids go into a remote location (a boarded up school in Danganronpas case), and can only escape if they kill people. The gameplay of DGR is like a cross between Phoenix Wright and DDR, if you can believe that and while its interesting and intuitive, its the plot of the game that really brings everything together, ramping up the tension to eleven and providing twists, turns and extra mysteries around every corner. Its bad enough being locked inside a fairly small building with no means of exit but the pressure really intensifies once people start dying. People you thought you could trust turn out to be traitors, minor conflicts escalate into deadly disputes, and theres always the threat of there being a mole in the ranks the atmosphere created by the narrative and the dialogue is absolutely brilliant. This game might not be for everyone, given that theres not a lot of action and a lot more dialogue than a normal game has but if youre willing to invest the time to get into it, theres a terrifically dark and sinister story waiting for you.
