7. Mario vs. Donkey Kong

2004's Game Boy Advance spin-off Mario vs. Donkey Kong kick-started a series of successful handheld titles, the sixth of which will in fact be releasing on the Wii U. Originally shown off as a tech demo, the game was received well enough that Nintendo decided to move forward with bringing the series out of the handheld realm and onto consoles. The game has players navigating Mario, Peach and co. around a series of levels while attempting to avoid the wrath of Kong, having to use their wits to outsmart him. The new visuals seen to date don't exactly seem to be pushing the Wii U to its limit, but that said, it still looks like another ingenious platforming blast, and the additional option to create levels and share them via Miiverse should keep players glued to their consoles for hours on end.
