15 Video Games That REWARD YOU For Playing Badly

Risk of Rain 2 is a classic roguelike which can be played solo or co-operatively with three friends. It follows the same tried and tested formula- procedurally generated dungeons, hordes of enemies and loot drops- but has a twist.

Much of the game is geared towards unlocking things in preparation for your next playthrough, rather than your current venture. These include new items or survivors to use, but the downside is having to restart from level 1, and still needing to collect them in the world.

Some of the best items can only be consistently obtained by performing badly- whether it's repeatedly dying or failing a challenge, it is almost lucrative to suck.

For instance, burning to death three times grants you a Blast Shower for your next playthrough, an item that cleanses all negative status effects- extremely handy in a pinch.

Such an item could easily sway the outcome of a particularly difficult boss fight, and it's granted to you as a reward for being miserably flammable. So, to quote the Trammps, burn baby, burn.

I'm perfectly sane, or so the voices tell me. British, sarcastic, president of the European Slinky Association, have a tendency to lie when listing things about myself. 100% guilty of being a massive geek obsessed with Doctor Who, Harry Potter and video games. If you can't find me on the internet, I'm probably locked in a room playing Spyro the Dragon on my old PlayStation, or blowing everything to smithereens with a concrete donkey on Worms: Armageddon.
