7. Velocity 2X (PS4, PS Vita)
Back to the PS4's library and another dual joystick shooter packed to the brim with enough charm to take Pixar out to dinner. Velocity 2X is the second take on FuturLab's 2012 shooter, except this time they've got the might of Sony's marketing department (and the curiosity of PS Plus-subscribers wanting something to play) behind them. The aforementioned label of a dual joystick shooter does sell this short, as it's in the meshing of that with a more standard 2D platforming blaster where everything comes together like nothing else. You'll be whizzing through levels at lightspeed, blowing apart droids like some R-Type tribute only to dock your ship and have the view switch to the side as you're suddenly in-character as one Kai Tana, sprinting to access nodes, power up certain weapons and warp through enemies in the process. There's a steady outpour of upgrades for both your ship and Kai herself, and with the perfect pick up n' play sensibility that means you'll get a huge rush in 30 seconds or 30 minutes (or more), FuturLabs really deserve some more exposure for putting together such a spectacular genre-marrying experience.
