16 Crucial Questions For 2016's Most Anticipated Video Games
6. Will Crackdown 3's Cloud-Based Multiplayer Set A New Trend?
Release Date: Q2/Q3 2016 The long-awaited third Crackdown game is looking to shake things up significantly thanks to cloud-based technology, which will allow the player to destroy an entire cityscape with 20x the computing technology of a single Xbox One, with most of the heavy lifting being outsourced to a data farm. It's an insanely ambitious idea, but it remains to be seen whether or not it'll actually work well in practicality. Will the servers constantly crash, or will Crackdown 3's innovative envelope-pushing set a trend that's adopted by almost every new multiplayer game. Console not powerful enough? No problem! Prediction: It's safe to say that there are going to be teething problems as with any new emergent tech, but once Crackdown 3 can demonstrate stable gameplay, it seems almost a given that other developers will adopt the same technology in order to make their games look more bombastic and powerful than ever before. Whether this is a good thing for the consumer, though, is a whole other debate: it takes yet more of the game off the disc and places it in the hands of servers which may or may not be supported in the years following release.
