16 Horror Video Games You Must Play Before Halloween

7. Dead Space

Remember when EA used to make really, really good games? Dead Space was one that they would later go on to totally butcher with part three, but for the first two the levels of tension, graphical wallop and general setting felt substantial enough to really elevate this above the rest. Even though you could regressively label this as 'Resident Evil 4 in space', to be honest that's also a tremendous compliment if you're a fan of over-the-shoulder horror. With a signature (but not really) gameplay mechanic named 'Strategic Dismemberment' that saw you pick apart the John Carpenter-esque Necromorphs limb-by-limb, advancing through the spaceship USG Ishimura with all its dank and mysterious surrounding technology was a space-epic that's pretty close to perfection.
