16 Most Disappointing Video Games Of 2017
7. Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
Oh, Crash, you were once so wholesome. So enjoyable. So carefree and influential.
Then you were wrenched from the annals of time, dragged through the 4K HD filter and pumped back onto our screens for "one more round". Everything was going so well: Graphics, recreation of that soundtrack, stellar level aesthetics and fan service paid to each of Naughty Dog's originals - and then we played you... and something was off.
Way off.
Turns out that in modernising various games from the late 90s, it was integral to rebuild once-angular levels into more rounded, more high-fidelity versions. Developers Vicarious Visions also needed a unified physics model for all three games to avoid confusion, which they retroactively applied from Crash 3, once again changing the way Crash 1 and 2 feel and move.
Together it resulted in a product that was supposed to pay tribute to your childhood... betraying your muscle memory and recollection of everything outside of Crash 3. For some this was still enough - the whole "Crash in HD!" thing - but for those who grew up playing the trilogy over and over, the N. Sane Trilogy was just that little bit left of centre... in a way that made it completely miss the mark.
