18 Best Video Game Moments Of 2016 (So Far)
15. Seeing SUPERHOT In Motion
It has been decades since we've seen a genuinely new mechanic in video games, especially in first-person shooters.
Enter SUPERHOT, the hacker-fuelled tale of what it's like to get sucked into a VR computer program, whilst loving every second of it. Yes, it's a meta-commentary on where humanity might be heading when these eyeball-trapping headsets are everywhere, but for now, SUPERHOT's hook is "Time only moves when you do."
It takes a second to adjust, but once you realise that nudging the analogue stick ever so slightly forward lurches the game from a snail's pace into a measured sense of movement, you'll start dodging bullets, cutting foes in half in mid-air, leaping across the room Matrix-style and robbing people of their guns - and that's all in the opening few levels.
I genuinely think SUPERHOT is the most exciting thing to happen to the FPS genre since Modern Warfare popularised perk-based unlocks in 2007. It's that damn good.
