12. Xen - Half-Life
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_HPtndiiJE There are many moments in the original Half-Life where the player will be called upon to engage in a little bit of platforming, but none are more frustrating that the first moments of Gordon Freeman's arrival onto Xen. This alien world is quite unlike anything else that is encountered in the game up to that point and that first platforming section ensured that many a gamer never got to see the rest of what the game had to offer. Making use of the awkward long jump in an area with lower gravity than Earth would be difficult at the best of times, never mind when you are taking on various aliens at the same time. Many a jump was missed before the average player got past the truly irritating first parts of the Xen level and could continue enjoying the game.
