15. Bioware Confirm Sally Ride As Influence For Face Of Mass Effect: Andromeda

Rumoured for months after a revealing trailer looked to show our new hero's dogtags, the name 'Ride' appeared to point towards Sally Ride, the first American woman in space. This tied in nicely with the fact that Alan Shepard was the first male in space (and the inspiration for Commander Shepard), yet Bioware were keeping schtum on the whole thing, until E3.

Emerging out of cryo-sleep after a few thousand lightyears under, a fan then tweeted Bioware's Mac Walters, who outside the conference confirmed that Ride actually was the inspiration for the character, and the fans had been right all along.

Cool thing is, although Ryder (the spelling change is assumedly for stylistic reasons) is the new face of the game like male model Mark Vanderloo was for the original trilogy, there will be options to play as a male too, carrying on the balanced gender options of Mass Effect 3.
