19 Most Laughably Unfair Video Game Bosses Of All Time

17. Lost Odyssey - Living Ice

If you're a JRPG fan and haven't heard of or played Lost Odyssey, you're doing both it and yourself a huge disservice. Developed by Mistwalker as part of Microsoft's ill-fated drive to increase Xbox 360 sales in Japan, Lost Odyssey was an old-school, turn-based RPG headed up by Final Fantasy creator, Hironobu Sakaguchi. The entirety of Lost Odyssey is a love letter to fans of the old formula, and it bordered on perfection - much more so than the original Final Fantasy titles. However, the inclusion of this very boss almost threatened to ruin all of that. Why it's unfair: Due to the way in which Lost Odyssey's narrative is structured, there are various spread throughout the story that require you to use a very strict set-up of party members. One such case is when you come up against the Living Ice boss - a monster that, for all intents and purposes, is immune to magical damage. And, as luck would have it, your party during the fight consists of three magic users and one snot-nosed brat - Mack - that can actually hurt the damn thing. Sure, if you've bothered to level up Mack prior to this fight - you're likely to be fine. The problem though, is that nobody ever did, because the character was total trash and inferior to every other melee type character available. So what you were essentially left with was an impassable boss that laughed at your total inability to see into a future where it existed.
