19 Predictions For This Fall's MetaCritic Gaming Scores
13. Assassin's Creed Syndicate
MetaCritic Score: 76 What To Expect: While it'll avoid the franchise-low reviews of last year's Unity (70-72), it's unlikely that Ubisoft will sufficiently reinvent the franchise in a meaningful way when their relatively generic formula is so successful. If (hopefully) avoiding the launch day fiasco of Unity as well as the various embargo controversies, without the introduction of a juicy gimmick like the glorious pirate shenanigans of Black Flag (83-88), Syndicate may struggle to distinguish itself as anything more than an entertaining if forgettable adventure game. Sure, the introduction of multiple protagonists (one of whom is female) and new means of navigating the world (like rope launchers and zip lines) are all welcome, but none of them are especially ground-breaking or deal-breakers as far as reinventing the core gameplay goes. It'll probably be worth a play if you're a fan, but buying these games full price only reinforces that Ubisoft can basically settle for low-effort re-skins year in and year out. Release Date: October 23 (PS4 & Xbox One), November 19 (PC)
