20 Announced Video Games That Are NEVER Coming Out
1. Beyond Good and Evil 2
And finally we have the permanent resident of development hell. It’s been 20 years, yes 20 years since Ubisoft first announced Beyond Good and Evil 2. The sequel to 2003’s game of the year nominated sci-fi RPG, this game was meant to build on its predecessor’s popularity and deliver a proper open world sci-fi journey.
The first issue the game encountered was the scale of its own ambition. Beyond Good and Evil 2 was envisioned as a massive open-world setting, spanning multiple stars and planets. Needless to say producing such as a vast digital world demanded immense resources and brough inevitable bottlenecks. After this and other struggles, including shifting creative visions, kept pushing the game back, Ubisoft rekindled the fire in 2017, re-revealing (or reassuring) the game at E3 that year.
But while Michel Ancel was both grateful and optimistic in his address, it has been 9 years since and we are still nowhere near getting the actual game. Ancel himself would exit Ubisoft in 2020 under unceremonious circumstances. The latest twist in the game’s troubled journey came very recently. This came courtesy of Ubisoft Bordeoux writing lead Rik Godwin, who announced on his Bluesky account that the game was still alive and in development and that he himself was involved with it. Whether we ever get Beyond Good and Evil 2 is right now beyond anyone's knowledge.
