A renowned name in the First Person Shooter genre, albeit with fluctuating degrees of commercial success, the Crysis series has captivated gamers for over a decade; across 3 games, spinoffs, remasters, and even expanded into other media such as novels. The would-be fourth installment, given the initial title of Crysis 4, was confirmed in 2022. Although very little was revealed about the actual game, it nonetheless generated a fair amount of buzz.

And then Crysis 4 was met with its own crisis in the form of a financial crunch. The studio behind the games, Crytek were forced to lay off a large number of staff, most likely including people who would have been working on Crysis 4. What resources they had left were diverted to their other main project at the time, Hunt: Showdown 1896.

The writing on the wall was confirmed by Crytek in 2025, when they announced via X that Crysis 4 had been indefinitely put on hold. While fans of the series will certainly hope this is only a reflection of Crytek's current financial situation and not a lack of desire to complete the game, only time will tell if we get to put on the signature nanosuits again.

After battling Galactus and pinning Hulk Hogan in the main event of Wrestlemania, I've taken a break from living in fantasy worlds, to focus on writing about them. I'm a comic book geek, a wrestling mark, a break dancer, and a scientist. One of those things may not be true.
