4. Sergey Nechayev (Atomic Heart)
Atomic Heart was a pleasant surprise for many who played it in 2023. Its action-heavy first-person shooter mechanics and intriguing world-building - set in an alternate history where the Soviet Union reigned supreme - had a lot to offer. That said, everyone agreed on one thing - the game would be so much better if the main character would just shut the hell up.
Sergey Nechaev, also known as P-3, is an experienced war veteran thrust into a battle with technology, tasked with tackling murderous robots with the help of a unique robotic partner attached to his glove. From that description, you'd likely expect a grizzled, badass, tough talker, but Sergey is about as far from that as possible.
Simply put, this guy sucks. He's incredibly whiny, always complaining, backchatting, and swearing like a toddler who has just learned about curse words. His arrogant attitude forces every line to sound like an attempt to appear cool and badass, which only makes him come across as a try-hard.
The game is solid, but this failed attempt at a cool protagonist is a stumble.
