20 Basic Video Game Skills That Are Secretly Broken

Don't knock them until you try them!

Usually the best skills in a video game are those that deal the most damage or max out all of your stats. The road to greatness is usually a long and tedious battle to get to the good stuff, but what if it didn't have to be this way?

Well, in some games, the most basic abilities are actually the good stuff you’re after.

Even though a low-level ability may not seem to do much, if you just let it grow a little, you will be able to upgrade it to become absolutely overpowered.

These types of skills may be deceptively simple. Their description might make it seem like they barely change anything in your gameplay, but if you combine them with other skills or wait until a secret upgrade becomes available, you will not regret sticking with them.

From starter abilities that turn into end-game superpowers to skills that alter one simple thing only to then boost every other skill you have, the following abilities are simple only in description alone.

Once you discover their secrets, you will realize it can take very little to achieve greatness.

20. Recycler Charge - Prey

In Prey, you play as a scientist trapped inside a moon base that has become overrun by a mysterious species of shapeshifting aliens called Typhon.

Your situation is obviously dire, but you have guns, psychic abilities, and plenty of special weapons to keep you alive. You might ask, however, which one is the strongest?

The answer: a hand-held recycling machine.

The recycler charge is a special grenade that turns everything within its blast radius into raw materials used in crafting. Although it's capable of killing enemies by turning them into resources, it's quite unreliable as a weapon due to its long activation time.

This said, its true power isn't lethality.

Because the grenade turns everything, from items to enemies and even friendly NPCs, into crafting materials, with perks that increase your resource yield, you can drag all items and corpses in an area into one spot and then detonate the recycler charge to get the equivalent of several recycler charges in materials.

This will not only allow you to be able to craft infinite amounts of recyclers in the fabricator but also gain so many materials that you will be able to craft every schematic in the game, including the really powerful ones, almost right away.

Behold the power of recycling!
