It's rare that a game as bad as Castlevania: The Adventure even gets a sequel, especially a sequel that doesn't just manage to be good but manages to be one of the best games on the system it appears on.

That’s what happened with Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge though.

The game is set 15 years after its awful predecessor and involves Christopher Belmont going on an adventure to save his letdown of a son Soleil Belmont. Most Belmont's kill Dracula at least twice, all Soleil does is fall under the vampire's influence and fight his own dad. Good going Soleil, you won't be getting your own Netflix series anytime soon.

Castlevania: The Adventure feels limited by the system it’s on. Belmont's Revenge is just a great Castlevania game.

You will notice this with a lot of Game Boy games. Early titles on the system often feel like watered-down versions of NES games whilst later on, when the developers have had time to learn how to properly take advantage of the handheld, games start to feel like true uncompromised experiences.

Belmont's Revenge doesn't feel like a compromise for a weak system, it feels like a great Castlevania game that can stand toe-to-toe with the console entries.
