Metal Gear Solid also known as Metal Gear: Ghost Babel is a surprisingly good Metal Gear title on the Game Boy.

It's set in an alternate timeline than the rest of the games which is great because the Metal Gear timeline is complicated enough as it is. Talking about complicated stories, this game has a lengthy story involving dozens of minutes of just reading characters talking to one another at a time.

Yeah. This is still a Metal Gear game. I won't spoil anything though as that's half of the fun with a game in this series.

The gameplay is similar to the original Metal Gear games before Metal Gear Solid was a thing. It’s presented from a birds-eye view and focuses on stealth and puzzle-solving even more than the Solid games do.

Interestingly it's level-based which makes sense as it is a portable game where you won't necessarily be playing for long sessions, it's nice having regular stopping points.

If you're a Metal Gear fan then you should play this game. It's the best game that uses the older formula and with what Konami is doing to the series you're probably desperate for some more real Metal Gear action.
