20 Best Nintendo Switch Games
1. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
And finally, our #1 spot. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom had the totally unenviable task of following up one of the greatest Zelda games - and greatest games full stop - in Breath of the Wild.
And though the novelty of its predecessor's sense of game-changing discovery is basically impossible to replicate, Tears of the Kingdom is about as brilliant a sequel as one could possibly imagine.
With a map double the size of Breath of the Wild, including new floating sky islands and underground chasms, Tears makes Hyrule an even more diverse joy to explore, expanding the world in ways players never saw coming.
The real star of the show, however, is arguably the array of new mechanics such as Ultrahand and Fuse, which allow players to manipulate the environment like never before. In lesser hands they could be mere gimmicks, but here they quickly feel like second nature.
Tears did what every all-timer sequel must do - it found creative ways to expand the scale and one-up what came before, enough that you can't possibly imagine where the next game could even go from here.
And most importantly, let us always remember Tears of the Kingdom as the Zelda game that finally made Ganon hot. Praise be.
