2. The Last Of Us

The Last of Us, like Journey before it, holds the pleasure of gracing both recent PlayStation consoles

A gorgeous game on the former, the enhancements brought to the latter make it a visual treat. But outside of its stunning performance on either, the real heart in TLoU is its story. A fresh take on the zombie survival trope, with a real-life infection used for reference (look up cordyceps on insects, it's gross), it wasn't a completely far-fetched notion compared to the living dead.

Following survivor Joel as he's tasked with escorting an immune teenager, it's the journey he and Ellie take together that cements TLoU's constant praise. Adding bleakness to the otherwise cheery buddy movie standard, it's the humanisation and fallibility of its protagonists that carry the game, urging players on to see how it ends.

Better yet, the Remastered version comes with the additional story DLC, adding more depth Ellie's character. That it still gets talked about some six years after release is a real show of strength, with the hotly anticipated sequel not far off now.
