20 Best Sci-Fi Video Games Of All Time
17. FTL - Faster Than Light
Many indie developed games have broken out into the mainstream, and FTL: Faster Than Light is one of the many huge success stories.
Inspired by table top board games such as Battlestar Galactica: the Board Game and video games like Star Wars: X-Wing, the two man team of Subset Games decided to create a game that brought the best of both worlds. The player is required to manage the numerous weapons and functions of their ship as they must deliver critical information to an allied fleet while being pursued by the enemy fleet.
As players jump from system to system, they must gather resources to maintain and upgrade their ship, recruit new crew members and decide whether to engage peacefully or aggressively with other ships they will encounter.
The games final challenge is a massive multi-stage battle against the enemies main flagship. Depending on what weapons or abilities your ship has at this stage, the flagship will always have the necessary weapons and gadgets it needs to make the battle as difficult for you as possible while testing your ability to adapt to its attacks.
FTL is more than good enough to stand with the best sci-fi games out there.
