20 Best Video Game Reveals From E3 2018
16. Nioh 2
The second major surprise from Sony's conference following Control was the announcement that the Dark Souls-inspired Nioh would be getting a sequel. Though clearly indebted to From Software's franchise, it should be noted that Team Ninja did do a great job of putting their own spin on the formula with the original hack and slasher, focusing far more on combos, story and loot while delivering an overall faster-paced experience.
It was one of the best games of 2017, and to see a sequel get announced so soon - after a stream of well-received DLC no less - seems to indicate that it was successful enough to secure a franchise moving forward. That can only be a good thing as, with From going off to pursue new gameplay styles and ideas now they've finished with Dark Souls III, there needs to be another great series in the sub-genre which fans can flock to.
That said, while it's exciting to have Nioh back for a sequel, the fact that the only information fans received was a logo means it's still probably a ways off yet. After all, the original only hit shelves little over a year ago, so it's not really surprising that the devs didn't have anything too substantial to show off.
