15. Observation
I wasn't ready for Observation.
A photo-real horror developed by under-the-radar indie studio No Code, you play as an A.I. called SAM, coded to protect one Dr. Emma Fisher, as aboard the ship Observation a crew is trying to monitor chunks of data out in space.
Only... it doesn't take long for some foreign body to infect your code; the game masterfully showing the limitations of machine thinking, and the peril of humans putting their faith in equipment that can't effectively respond.
What happens next you'll have to see for yourself, but Observation's cinematography is on-par with Christopher Nolan's Interstellar. Its gameplay uses first-person movement to give you free reign of the ship's CCTV system and various drones, and when all's said and done, the finale will take quite some unpacking.
As a brilliant space horror with a chilling undercurrent of pure tension, Observation is horror game royalty.
