Bringing the series back to its horror roots and shifting the gameplay to a first-person perspective for the first time in a mainline entry, Resident Evil 7 was a refreshing return to form for the classic franchise. Playing as new protagonist Ethan Winters, the game takes players to the dilapidated Dulvey estate in Louisiana as Ethan searches for his missing wife, Mia.

Not only is this setting dripping in atmosphere, but it's also home to the Baker family, who've been taken over by a strange mould that's turned them into deranged monstrosities. While Jack and Marguerite Baker function as this title's main bosses, the ending sees Ethan face Eveline, the source of the mould infestation.

Compared to previous boss encounters, the fight against Eveline isn't particularly demanding. All players need to do throughout both phases is to continually unload bullets into her gigantic face while occasionally blocking attacks. Despite this fight's already trivial level of difficulty, events get even easier when series veteran Chris Redfield delivers a powerful Albert-01 pistol to Ethan.

Although putting Eveline down for good in a few shots makes for a grand cinematic spectacle, the lack of challenge it provides results in an anticlimactic conclusion.
