20 Boss Fights That Actually Get Easier
12. Cogwork Dancers - Hollow Knight: Silksong (2025)
Like its predecessor, Hollow Knight: Silksong is filled with astronomically difficult bosses designed to push players' skills to their breaking point. One of the most interesting of them, however, is the Cogwork Dancers, who are found within the Citadel during Act 2.
A mandatory boss needed to progress deeper into the area, they are a duo of mechanical dancers that gracefully move across the arena in clearly telegraphed directions. Although this encounter isn't as demanding as some of this game's other boss fights, with players simply needing to avoid the dancers' paths and attack when they're stationary, the challenge is gradually increased by having them dance at a faster tempo in subsequent phases. The difficulty then hits its crescendo in the third phase when the dancers begin moving separately.
The fight enters its fourth and final phase once one of the automatons is defeated. Not only is there now only one dancer to worry about, but the remaining enemy is much slower than before and therefore easier to avoid.
There's a beautiful tragedy in watching this solitary enemy dance alone. However, this sequence hits even harder once players uncover the heartbreaking story of the lovers these mechanical dancers represent.
