3. Games Cost How Much?

When Nintendo announced the Switch 2 was being released this year, it was a sign that big changes in the industry were on the horizon. Unfortunately, not every change was accepted with grace.

Although the console's official presentation was thorough, eagle-eyed viewers noticed an important detail wasn't mentioned - the pricing.

When it was announced the next day that first-party games would cost up to $79.99, the outcry was global. Due to the immense blowback, Nintendo was half-expected to reverse this decision.

Instead, the Japanese giant stuck to their guns, promising this ridiculous price tag was justified. However, the system's launch title, Mario Kart World, proved otherwise, due to its lack of content. Adding insult to injury, many Switch 2 titles couldn't fit on a cartridge, meaning consumers were paying more for non-physical games.

But the cherry on top is the fact this price hike has been normalised and not just with Nintendo. Though the gaming community is dismayed by this decision, more is to be expected in the future, especially with upcoming titles like GTA VI rumoured to be retailed for $100.
