20 Cult-Classics Trapped On Old Consoles

2. Futurama

Futurama Game
Fox

Futurama is the franchise that just won’t quit. It’s been cancelled twice already and yet keeps finding its way back. The same can’t be said for the video game of Futurama. Released in 2003, Futurama is a 3D platformer game developed by Unique Development Studios, known for creating No Fear Downhill Mountain Biking and Sno-Cross Championship Racing.

Now, what some might not remember is that this game is tough as nails. You may laugh, but until you try it for yourself, you won’t know the same pain that I know. And with this game trapped on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox, chances are you probably won’t.

Featuring an all-new original story written by Futurama and Simpsons regular J. Stewart Burns, this video game almost acts as a lost episode of the show. There is still a way to enjoy the story, however, as the game’s cutscenes and some in-game footage were compiled to create a 30-minute feature called ‘Futurama: The Lost Adventure’. And the game is fun, it’s a good time, I just wish it were easier. Maybe with a re-release, they’ll add some more checkpoints. And better controls. While we’re at it, the camera could use a rework, too.

Hey, I’m Matt. I work full-time at WhatCulture's neighbours, MyVoucherCodes. I first joined MyVoucherCodes as a Deals Expert, scouring the internet, leaving no stone unturned in finding the best discount codes, sales and offers for our customers. Moving into my first home during the worst possible time (during lockdown), I understand the necessity of saving money when the purse strings are tight. Outside of saving money, I’m into video games, movies, books and music. I host and edit a video game podcast called The Retry Hard Podcast, where my friend and I go through news, reviews and video games in general. I love movies and watching how they’re made, and I’ve worked as a set decorator for a few months on His Dark Materials season 3, which gave me a massive insight into how it all comes together. I also put out music as a solo artist named Matt Kiano, where I won the award for Best Male Artist of 2025 for Radio Wigwam and have been nomiated for Best Live Act at the 2026 Radio Wigwam Awards.
