20 Game Anniversaries Coming In 2026 That'll Age You Mercilessly

The Nathan Drake-starring Uncharted series was already wildly popular before its fourth outing, yet A Thief's End managed to propel the adventurer’s exploits to new heights with fluid combat, Hitman-worthy stealth and a blockbuster story made all the more real by Naughty Dog’s attention to detail in the graphics department.

The game calls treasure hunter Nathan Drake away from early retirement for a rambunctious adventure alongside his presumed-dead brother Samuel and long-time partner, Victor Sullivan, in order to locate real-life pirate Henry Avery's lost treasure. Unlike the other games, this version of Drake and his companions is jaded, weary and suffering from one too many exploits gone awry. And this realism makes the gameplay all the better, foisting genuine danger upon us, while simultaneously offering new ranges of control in its innovative climbing mechanics, fluid grappling hook action, and, yes, more parkour.

Given these are all the hallmarks of a contemporary game, it may come as some surprise to realise ten years have passed since it dropped on the PS4. The PS5 and Windows ports in 2022 have without a doubt kept A Thief's End relevant and feeling up to date, but you could barely fit a cigarette paper in the gap between the eighth- and ninth-gen versions of this game.
