20 Games That Made The Movies BETTER
8. The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (2004)
The Chronicles of Riddick did not do well as a film, abandoning the high concept approach of Pitch Black and taking Vin Diesel's Riddick character out into a wider world and various scenarios that were a bit too big for him. Nevertheless, its accompanying game, The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, did a valiant job in patching up the series' now-ragged reputation.
The game puts us into play as Richard B Riddick, the gruff, alien anti-hero with the glowing eyes, and we’re tasked with escaping from maximum-security prison Butcher Bay. All tools are at our disposal, including Riddick’s see-in-the-dark eyes, and the game manages to incorporate shooter, adventure and stealth elements without ever feeling disjointed or overloaded.
In all, Escape from Butcher Bay manages to do the unheard of, rectifying and contextualising the film, giving a greater sense of structure to the franchise overall and allowing us to watch Chronicles in a way that makes a bit more sense. Its only real issue is its brevity, which is something the film could definitely have learned a thing or two about.
