If there’s one video game series from a bygone era that almost certainly couldn’t be revived today, it’s Leisure Suit Larry.

Building upon 1981’s Softporn Adventure (yes, that’s really the name), the first entry in the adults-oriented series – 1987’s Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards – is a point-and-click graphic adventure game centered around the titular middle-aged virgin trying to find a partner in the resort town of Lost Wages.

With only an outdated leisure suit, feigned charisma, and a few bucks in his pockets, Larry sets out to bed one of four women while testing his luck in a casino. He has only seven hours to do this, however, and if he doesn’t succeed, well, his night of awkwardly amusing misfortunes turns into a dawn of fatalistic self-harm.

In fact, if Larry is still involuntarily celibate when the sun comes up, he shoots himself in the head after being told: “Oh, no! Stepping outside, you see the sun rising in the east. Glancing at your watch, you realize the terrible truth . . . your night in Sierra World is over, and (technically speaking) you’re still a virgin!!!”

It’s probably not a shock to learn that this outcome was removed for the 1991 remake.
