20 Major Video Games You Forgot Were Happening

4. Project Awakening

Developer Cygames first revealed Project Awakening way back in 2016. It was a trailer shown during PlayStation's 2018 LineUp Tour, however, that really caught the eye. The footage showcased a warrior clad in full armour as he battled a giant lizard, and it looked stunning for what, at the time, people assumed would be a PS4 game. But then? Silence.

Years went by with no real news. Many assumed the project had been quietly canned. Then, in August of this year, came the first real concrete update since that 2018 trailer. In an interview with Japanese video game magazine Weekly Famitsu, Cygames' president Koichi Watanabe confirmed that, in his own words, 'Development [on Project Awakening] is, of course, steadily progressing,' and 'really starting to take shape.' It's also stated that Weekly Famitsu was shown new footage, proving the game is indeed finally making big strides.

Despite a lack of release date or publicly available trailers/ footage, Project Awakening still lives, over a decade since it was initially revealed.
