20 Major Video Games You Forgot Were Happening
2. The Witcher Remake
With all the recent news surrounded The Witcher franchise, its easy to forget that a remake of the original game was announced back in 2022. CD Projekt RED revealed that the original 2007 title was being rebuilt from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5. Development is being handled by Polish studio Fool's Theory, whose staff include several veterans who worked on The Witcher 2 and 3, with CD Projekt RED providing creative supervision.
Four years on from that announcement though, we haven't seen or heard a peep from the project, and CD Projekt RED are seemingly keeping their cards very close to their chest about it. Things got slightly more complicated in 2025 when the studio confirmed that development had been temporarily integrated with the upcoming Witcher 4, and some of Fool's Theory was moved to support that project instead, with the hope that the tools and assets they helped create would eventually be used in the original remake.
With CD Projekt RED having so many irons in the fire at the moment, it seems the actual team left working on The Witcher Remake may be a little thin on the ground, and it's unknown exactly what that means for the project's timeline.
