20 Moments That Made The Resident Evil Series Iconic

5. The Destruction Of Raccoon City – Resident Evil 3: Nemesis

Raccoon City is the most iconic location in the franchise, having been the setting for the first three games and subsequently being revisited in everything from the Milla Jovovich movies to Operation Raccoon City.

Don’t bother booking a weekend vacation to see the famous city, though, since it got thoroughly nuked off the map by the end of the third game. The Government decides the city is too much of a hazard - a Biohazard, if you will - and orders it destroyed. For all the silliness of the game, there’s something strangely poignant about seeing the city reduced to ash, where famous buildings like the police station and clock tower are turned to dust, alongside its deceased civilians.

Players didn’t have to really lament the loss of the city since Capcom keep going back to it, but the scene of Raccoon’s demise certainly left a powerful mark on the franchise.
